This is a 25 year rye from Willett’s gift shop that’s bottled at 50% ABV.
Nose: Savory rye bread with allspice and cloves. Butter with a bit of chamomile.
Palate: Fairly hot for only 50% ABV – oak is dry and dominant throughout palate. This leads to a bitter profile since rye spices are kept in check.
Finish: Bitter, soapy oak overwhelms rye again. Astringent and short.
Rating: 81/100 – Great nose, but a bit of a letdown after that due to being overoaked.
Value for the money: These go for $400+ and it’s a super easy pass for me. I might buy one if it was priced at $75 or under maybe.
