Wild Turkey Rare Breed (Batch WT-02-91) Review

This is an older NAS batch of WTRB that was bottled in 1992 at 55% ABV.

Nose: Heavily charred oak with rich butterscotch, thick cinnamon and nutmeg notes with construction paper and rose water in the background.

Palate: Butterscotch here again followed by dry, spiced oak with an ashy profile. Some grass and fenugreek notes emerge after a bit.

Finish: Heat flares up for a bit before most notes fade leaving cigar and charred oak notes.

Rating: 87/100 – A solid Rare Breed, but not too different from any other older batch I’ve had.

Value for the money: These older Rare Breeds are one of the cheaper secondary WTs out there – I’d guess this would go for $150-$200, and I would pass at that. If you’re after secondary turkey in that price range, save $50 more and try to snag a Split Label for $250ish.
