This is a 26 year Glen Grant from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society that was matured in what I presume to be an ex-bourbon cask and bottled at 56.2% ABV.
Nose: Dark chocolate covered raspberries drizzled with balsamic vinegar, old oak is quite prominent with vanilla syrup and clementines.
Palate: Fruity and soft delivery with pears, apples, green grapes, honey, and fresh peppercorns.
Finish: Caramel candies, charred oak, and slightly salty.
Rating: 89/100 – This was my first Glen Grant, but I may be on the look out for some more of their expressions down the road – a good first impression.
Value for the money: This came as part of my membership kit for joining SMWS, but I assume this bottle would be sold for $200-$210 on their site, and I would consider buying one at that price.
