This is the predecessor to the the Quinta Ruban which is a core expression from Glenmorangie. This expression was finished in port pipes after maturing in ex-bourbon casks. It’s 12 years old and bottled at 43% ABV.
Nose: Intensely spicy – cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Reminds me of red hot candies – port is pretty evident adding in a rich note to the oak.
Palate: Port stands out but overtaken by the spice blend from nose along with ginger and black pepper. Oak is more evident with honey and vanilla.
Finish: Pretty long and mostly sweet and rich. Pepper lingers with vanilla notes.
Rating: 88/100 – I enjoy this one quite a bit. I think this is slightly better than the modern Quinta Rubans I’ve tried.
Value for the money: I bought this for $45 which is a great price – I wouldn’t pay more than $60 or so for it though.
