This is part of Glenmorangie’s core range – it’s a 12 year expression that’s finished in Sauternes casks before being bottled at 46% ABV.
Nose: Very sweet sauternes notes up front but some earthy/vegetal notes lurk in the background. Sweet/sour at the same time. Crisp like a chardonnay with green apples and little malt.
Palate: Malt buried beneath a layer of green grape, spices, oak, and a bit of vanilla.
Finish: Short and dry – green raisins, oak, and spices. Reminiscent of a dry white wine.
Rating: 88/100 – Similar to a dessert wine to a degree – the Sauternes finish adds some nice complexity. A great summer dram.
Value for the money: These retail around $60+ which I think is a good price for this expression.
