This is a lightly peated Glenmorangie that was aged in a combination of ex-bourbon and Oloroso casks before being bottled at 46% ABV. It was the Private Edition release from 2011.
Nose: What a complex nose – salty ocean breeze carrying malt, peat, and a hint of sweet sherry. Peat is very subtle – interesting to see it in a Glenmorangie expression. A little lemon juice towards the end to help cut the sweetness.
Palate: Oloroso influence is noticeable up front – sweet raisins on the tip of the tongue. Peat immediately follows in small quantities mixing in with oak, black pepper, and smoke.
Finish: Peat picks up steam with oak also intensifying – long finish with added smoke and subtle sherry.
Rating: 92/100 – One of my favorite Glenmorangies – would like to see more lightly peated expressions from them.
Value for the money: I picked this up at retail of $70 which is an absolute steal. I’d be happy paying up to $100 to replace my bottle.
