This is a 20 year Glendronach that was matured in a PX Sherry Puncheon and bottled at 54.4% ABV.
Nose: Big, meaty sherry with honeycomb, prosciutto, raisins, freshly sawn oak, figs, and apricot jam.
Palate: Golden raisins mingled with new oak – chalky, but sweet with peaches and nectarines, citrus juice, and prunes.
Finish: Clean, sweet sherry lingering with damp oak.
Rating: 90/100 – I’m typically a fan of these Glendronach single cask releases, and this one is no exception. Despite the 20 year PX maturation, there are still a lot of lighter/bright notes in here to avoid just being a pure dark sherry bomb.
Value for the money: This retails for $220 and I think it’s a bit on the high side, but not too bad.
