Tamdhu 10 (Signatory Vintage Cask #354 Binny’s Selection) Review

This is a 10 year Tamdhu (2005/2015) that was selected by Binny’s and bottled by Signatory Vintage at 60.5% ABV. This expression was matured in a first fill sherry cask.

Nose: Heavy raisins with vanilla and cumin. The level of raisin indicates PX to me, but given it doesn’t specify PX on the label, it’s probably more likely Oloroso.

Palate: Fruity bubblegum and heavy sherry. Heat is rather evident here, but dark fruit notes from the sherry help balance it a bit.

Finish: Dry with the sherry remaining dominant alongside the young oak pulling through.

Rating: 86/100 – I’ve only had one other Tamdhu (the 10 year OB), and this one is a nice step up.

Value for the money: This I going for $50 at Binny’s currently, and that’s a great price for a pretty interesting dram.

Tamdhu 10 Review

This is a 10 year Tamdhu expression that is one of its core releases. It’s bottled at 43% ABV.

Nose: A bit of sulphur tucked in the sherry butt – sweet with raisins and pears and a hint of floral notes.

Palate: Big sherry up front with pepper, oak, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Slightly bitter with only a hint of the sulphur from the nose.

Finish: Very short – passing sherry notes fade to oak quickly.

Rating: 80/100

Value for the money: These retail for $50-$60 which is an easy pass – buy a Macallan 12 instead for that price.
