This is a 12 year single pot still Irish whisky which was matured in three casks: ex-bourbon, sherry butts, and malaga casks. It wasn’t available in the US till a year or two ago, but it can now be found fairly commonly in liquor stores. It’s bottled at 46% ABV.
Nose: Very grassy malt with heaps of rhubarb, subtle bananas, and fresh grains.
Palate: Hay and earthy oak with mild malt and greens.
Finish: Slightly spicy with musty oak and grassy malt coated in dark chocolate.
Rating: 92/100 – I really enjoy the grassy notes alongside the sweeter sherry influenced notes in this one. One of the first Irish whiskies I tried a couple years ago and remains one of my favorites.
Value for the money: These retail around $80 which is a fair price in my mind.
