This is a 17 year blended whisky from Hibiki that is bottled at 43% ABV.
Nose: Honey and lavender with brine, dried grasses, loads of flowery notes, eucalyptus, fresh mint, and beeswax.
Palate: Big, flowery malt followed up by honey, wax, camphor oil. Turns woodier after a bit as it dries out and becomes a bit peppery with some subtle acetone notes.
Finish: Mostly oak and beeswax with some herbal notes lingering.
Rating: 84/100 – A very compelling nose but becomes more tame on palate/finish. Overall, a very pleasant blend.
Value for the money: Sadly Japanese whiskies have exploded in price the last couple years – this one is now retailing around $200, and it’s an easy pass at that price. I’d be more likely to be a consumer closer to $100 or so.
