This is a 17 year Glencadam expression from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society that was matured in a 2nd fill ex-sherry butt and bottled at 54.9% ABV.
Nose: Wow – very thick sherry with a PX vibe. Smoked meats, prunes, red grapes, strawberries round out a very fruity/intense nose.
Palate: Sherry is very intense – super thick raisin with some extinguished match notes. Oak mostly masked by a medley of dark fruits with some nutty notes in the background.
Finish: Sherry continues to dominante with heavy grape nuts and a bit of cashew.
Rating: 93/100 – Pretty outstanding – strikes me as being very similar to the Benrinnes 23 OB. One of the best sherried expressions I’ve had from SMWS, and my first expression from Glencadam. Looking forward to trying more of their expressions after this one.
Value for the money: This retailed for $150 at SMWS which is a steal in my book. I wish they had more in stock still.
