This is a 12 year expression from little known Cardhu distillery (a Diageo distillery that’s heavily used in Johnnie Walker blends). It’s bottled at 40% ABV.
Nose: Vanilla and malt muddled with rotted oak. Earthy with mineral oils and a hint of smoke.
Palate: Bananas and cinnamon up front with old oak and creme brulee following.
Finish: Tannic and earthy – fairly short.
Rating: 80/100 – Very easy drinker, but not much complexity. Would make for a good intro scotch maybe for someone who hasn’t had a lot of whisy.
Value for the money: These retail around $40 which is pretty fair.
