This is a now discontinued expression of Black Maple Hill that is NAS and commonly referred to as the orange label BMH. It is bottled at 47.5% ABV.
Nose: Freshly sawn oak blended with strong corn. Tart raspberry with cherry cough syrup.
Palate: Quite woody with light herbal and vegetal notes.
Finish: Short, dry, mostly full of oak with a slight hint of cherry.
Rating: 82/100 – A little out of balance with the oak being too dominant.
Value for the money: These used to retail around $45-$50 which was an ok buy. However, after it was discontinued a few years ago, the prices have gone insane and are now $300+. In no way is this bourbon worth anywhere close to that. I probably wouldn’t buy any at retail at $45 again if it were still available.
