Balcones Single Malt Review

This is a single malt offering from Balcones. It’s an NAS expression bottled at 53% ABV.

Nose: Very grain forward – you can tell this malt is rather young. Cardamom, coconut and floral notes.

Palate: Massive malt profile – bitter coffee, young oak, honey.

Finish: Malt still young and dominant with anise.

Rating: 80/100 – A bit one dimensional given the youth of the malt.

Value for the money: I believe these go for $70+ at retail which is competing with much older malts from scotland. I’d buy this if it were around $35-$40 perhaps.
