This is a 21 year Balblair that was matured in a first-fill sherry butt and bottled at 53.4% ABV.
Nose: Bold, heavy sherry notes with bananas foster, vanilla, grape juice, and a bit of a smoldering log smoke note.
Palate: Strong sherry here again with biting oak and tobacco – heavy on the grape side with some subtle baking spices.
Finish: Sherry fades rapidly leaving behind a bitter oak and black pepper.
Rating: 86/100 – Intense sherry but a bit on the dark/heavy side – wish there were some brighter fruit/citrus notes to help balance it out a bit.
Value for the money: This retailed for a little over $100 which is a pretty decent price for what you get.
