Auchentoshan American Oak Review

This is a NAS expression from Auchentoshan’s core lineup which is triple distilled, aged in first fill American oak casks, and bottled at 40% ABV.

Nose: Putty turning more into a playdough after a bit with added salt, subtle varnish, orange pulp, lemon oil, and fresh oak.

Palate: Tastes like it’s been filtered through wood chips going into the glass as the oak is very strong/fresh up front – new make notes lay beneath in the barley with some stale cigarette smoke and a bit of plastic.

Finish: Funky oak with a floury/doughy malt.

Rating: 70/100 – Pretty un-enjoyable due to the strength of the new make/new oak profile.

Value for the money: These retail around $30, and it’s an easy pass for me.
