This is the 2009 release of Thomas H. Handy (part of the yearly BTAC releases). It’s NAS (probably around 7 years old) and bottled at 64.5%
Nose: Rye is very prominent with brown sugar and charred oak.
Palate: Big rye cereal notes that bounce between savory, peppery, sweet, salty all with cured oak to back it up. A bit of acetone lingers in the background.
Finish: Hot and dry with loads of rye and oak.
Rating: 84/100 – A good rye, but one of my least favorite THH releases I’ve tried.
Value for the money: These go for probably $300+ on the secondary, but it’s an easy pass for me. I’d buy a 2011 instead if you’re looking for a THH on the secondary.
